System Document Open Architecture
System Document Open Architecture (SDOA) is the name of the system specification of the OV-Chipkaart, an electronic ticketing system for public transport in The Netherlands. Its main aim is to be an ‘open’ standard, meaning that it is available to all interested parties (vendors, public transport operators, etc.) and that is clear and detailed enough to allow interoperability between equipment of different vendors and between systems of different public transport operators.
The OV-Chipkaart system is under responsibility of Trans Link Systems (TLS), a company created by the five major public transport operators in The Netherlands with the aim to introduce and maintain this system. The SDOA was originally created by East-West, the consortium chosen by Trans Link Systems to build the actual system. Nowadays, the SDOA is maintained and expanded by TLS itself.
Most parts of the SDOA are available from TLS, some security-related parts only upon special request.
